Timeline Poster Design for a convention (2022)
Graphic Designer
My vision for the timeline poster is to be expressive, colorful, and empathetic. The title I came up is Color Me Queer. The context of the design is to highlight the history and story of the LGBTQ+ community. The goal is for it to be cool that represents my generation and those that are younger, yet commemorate those who paved the way.
I took inspiration from fun board games that my friends and I usually do on weekends, along with nostalgic pieces such as polaroids (I grew up with my mom always taking pictures of me with her polaroids, which the younger generations are now using again). I also incorporated beautifully textured photographs and stickers. The board game starts off with the first known person to publicly come out in 1867. The timeline consists of a lot of firsts and events, such as the Stonewall uprising that helped transform the gay rights movement.
I sought to create an intimate atmosphere where everyone gets together at one table, playing and enjoying a game night. The ambition is to communicate the tender message of the powerful community in a visual direction that is bright, cheerful, and engaging, much the same as the individuals of the community. Lastly, I ended the timeline poster with the phrase "We keep fighting" because we will.
